What to take to your driving test
A practical checklist of the documents and car you need for a UK practical driving test.
Pre-launch check: Check the DVSA publication each month and record the source date when data is refreshed.
Your essential checklist
Keep the items together the evening before your test so that you are not searching for documents when you need to leave.
- Your current UK driving licence.
- Your theory test pass certificate if you have it; the examiner can check your pass if it has been lost.
- A suitable, insured and roadworthy car. DVSA does not provide one.
- Glasses or contact lenses if you need them to meet the eyesight requirement.
Check the details before test day
Read your booking confirmation and confirm the centre, date and time. If you plan to use your own car, check every official vehicle rule rather than relying on a short checklist.
If your licence is missing or the photograph no longer identifies you, follow the official guidance in good time. Do not send your licence number or booking reference to this website.
