Can your driving instructor sit in on your test?
Who can observe a car test and the rules an observer must follow.
Pre-launch check: Check the DVSA publication each month and record the source date when data is refreshed.
What an observer can do
An observer can watch and take notes to help with later feedback. They must keep their phone silent and avoid prompting, gestures or anything that could distract the candidate or examiner.
Usually only one observer is allowed, although reasonable adjustments can sometimes permit another person. Tell the examiner about any adjustment needs at the start.
Deciding what feels right
Some candidates value having their instructor hear the debrief; others feel calmer without an observer. Discuss it in advance so the decision does not add pressure on the day.
